Mascara & Monsters is my blog where I write all my rockstar moments and musings on the music industry.
In 2014, following my love of music, I planned a road trip along the famed Highway 61 – the Blues Highway – stretching from New Orleans to Chicago. I documented my trip through Instagram and Soot Magazine. (I plan to use more of my experiences for more solid writing projects.)
One of my most memorable experiences was visiting the Crossroads in Clarksdale, Mississippi – where legend has it blues guitarist Robert Johnson sold his soul to the devil for his virtuoso guitar-playing skills. In Memphis, I visited a former sundry store (that used to be a brothel), which is now a local bar, where I ventured up the crooked staircase (the building is sinking into the ground) to find a gentleman wearing a hat like Mark Twain‘s character Huckleberry Finn playing honky tonk on the piano and an elderly man dancing with his walking stick propping him upright. I danced with a beautiful stranger to Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Free Bird until midnight.
